About Us
Shilstone and its estate is a cherished family home, and since purchasing the property in 1997, the Fenwick family have lovingly restored not only the Georgian Manor House at the heart of the grounds, but much of the surrounding buildings and estate.
As such, this has resulted in Shilstone becoming much more than a private, family home. In 2009, the doors opened on our onsite, purpose-built, Devon Rural Archive an independent heritage centre for the study of our county’s buildings and landscapes. The Devon Rural Archive has been encouraging visitors to Shilstone since, whose passion is appreciating the historical significance of Shilstone, as well as other settlements, dwellings, and communities of Devon.
Just a few years later, Shilstone hosted its first weddings , and is now a well-established, highly regarded wedding venue in Devon. With its unique combination of traditional and contemporary style, set against quintessentially rural, Devonshire scenery, Shilstone has emerged as the perfect setting to deliver exclusive wedding days.
With a truly unique backdrop, we wished to share Shilstone further, therefore, launch a new, additional venture of hosting Sunday lunches in the late Autumn and into the Winter. We are also in the process of building an onsite café within our Devon Rural Archive, so we are very excited to have even more opportunity to welcome visitors, both old and new!!
